One of the most basic things you can do using a video editing program is to add transitions in between clips. True to its name, transitions create a gradual change from one scene to the next, avoiding abrupt cuts in the video unless of course, the editor does that on purpose.

There are a number of video transitions that are very useful when creating videos for different reasons. The most common – and possibly the most popular – is the fade in/out transition. This is when a scene fades out to a color (usually black) or to another scene as though it’s slowly disappearing right before your eyes.

It’s just one of many though. If you want to learn more about the different types of video transitions and the ways you can use them, you can visit Media College.com

When it comes to final output, you will be given the option of either producing a VCD or DVD disc once you have applied the finishing touches to your project. Normally, people would want the VCD production as it is easier and faster. But if you want something better, considering the DVD option may be a great way to go as well.

It will inquire additional work as well though. Some DVD authoring may be needed. Titles, video play and some music are normally present for you to manage and if you have the patience to handle it, by all means go for it.

Some videos can be muted so that you can use music instead of their default sounds. This is a great way to create an MTV like of a production and with the right tune for the theme of the video, you are sure to draw a round of applause after everything has been compiled and presented.

That is why it would be best to be up to date with latest musical tunes. Old and new have their way of spicing up the video project and once you do, you are bound to blow life into the video rather than relying on the raw video with nothing to show.

Most problems with tech support regarding video and editing falls in the category of video card and associated drivers that have to be updated yet may not always be the best set-up. This is where one nifty ability of XP comes in, the driver rollback facility you see on your system setup which allows you to revert to an older driver that works after the new one tends to have messed up everything. Drivers for your video card are an essential part of the computer set-up, get the wrong driver and you get erratic performance form your machine. Read the rest of this entry »

Ever felt the need for an operating system upgrade, this is a common appearance and most of us choose the simplest way to do this, upgrading the system straight from the auto update feature of the Operating system. This might not be the best thing to do which leaves another option for you which is more tedious or painful, doing a complete format and then install everything all over again including your operating system and other programs that you use. It is truly painful but here’s why this is better, should you decide to have your computer for use as a dedicated video editing machine you will need a system with the smallest amount of overhead load running in the background as possible. Some video cameras give you the option of being able to edit your videos directly from the camera without having to go through video editing software.

But if you want to take video editing seriously, you need a proper rig to take care of the video editing software. Here are a few basic specs needed when you put a video editing machine together.

    1. A fast processor. An Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 and above or it’s equivalent.

    2. At least 2gb RAM. IF you’re on Vista, you need even more for better speed, as advanced video editing software requires a lot of memory.

    3. A lot of hard drive space. You’ll be needing a lot of space to store your videos in.

    4. A capture card. But this is only if you want to capture videos from old formats like VHS tapes, or video cameras that use DV or mini-DV formats.

Creating a title for a movie or a video is quite easy to talk about but it requires a certain level of creativity and some guides to follow so you can come up with an effective title. One that would speak of the movie in just a few words… Try to make your titles short but straight to the point. Less is more, thats what you should apply when you think of your title. Look for colors that would be best readable by the audience. Light colored letters are usually more readable in dark backgrounds. You shoul keep in mind to never use very thin lines . And choose fonts that have thick lines. Because thin lines flicker in interlaced displays. Your audience can get a headache when viewing your video.

Confirm if your Microsoft Windows version and see if it includes a Movie Maker. If not, then you still have to download some free video editing software or the trial version of some good names in the video editing software industry like Final Cut Pro, Pinnacle, Adobe Premiere, and Avid Express.

When you’re already set, it’s now time for the real job—editing. If it’s your first time to edit movie files, better follow these tips so you won’t get confused:

    1. Choose the best video footages. You can do this easily by removing the unwanted footages. Cut those that are not needed or those that were taken by fault. After that, you can gather different scenes depending on their segments. You can also make separate clips and select the best among them. But be cautious in doing this since streaming videos repeatedly might decrease the video quality.

    2. Form the movie flow. Place the video footages depending on their sequential order or your script’s order.

    3. Add transitions. After placing the videos to their right order, it’s now time to pick the best transitions. You can use only one type of transition so it may not be tiring to the eyes. You can also choose different transitions to make it more appealing. But many professional editors suggest using only a limit of three transition types for movies.

    4. Add other elements like images, sounds, and texts. After the transition, you can now add other elements you like. You might need to adjust the transition as you do this. Make sure about the timing or your movie will be obviously flawed.

Creativity is the only mean for you to make the most of what you have. Also, don’t expect to finish one-hour of movie in two hours. It takes a lot of time editing videos. But you’ll surely get the best outcome by exerting it sufficient time and endeavor.
