In the early years of video recording and editing, the process was both difficult and expensive. Early techniques involved working with the actual film reel by cutting and taping things up wherever necessary. As such, moving a scene up in the script would literally mean cutting out that part out of the reel, and making room for it in another part with the help of a razor blade or a guillotine cutter. Thankfully, a lot has changed since then.
